…and another busy day with additional 5km by foot ;)
This city is sooo different than NY. Completely. We had so much luck again with the weather, after a rainy and windy weekend, this day was almost perfect – sun was shining, almost no wind and clouds. And that all with beautiful colors of the fall.
We started with the US Marine Corps War Memorial… what a view. Than we walked to the Arlington Cemetery. We took a small bus-tour there because the facility is huge. We had the chance to see President Kennedy’s and his wife’s grave. Additionally we had the chance to see the Change of the Guards at the Grave of the Unknown Soldiers. This was quite an amazing show. Especially the part where one of the soldiers was checking the gun and the outfit of the new guard. Moves like Robocop… really cool. Worth watching for sure. At the end some great views on DC from the hill were Arlington House is standing.
From the Cemetery we took the metro to get to the Capitol… we were running late for our tour so we almost run there. The Capitol tour is for free and for sure worth your time. You gotta get to know at least a bit of the history of a country you visit. And a joking tour guide makes it even more interesting. After another session for “Jump the World” we hit the National Mall. Nope Ladies, it doesn’t have anything to do with shopping :P It is just a part of DC were all the museums are, starting at the Capitol, passing the Washington Monument, ending by the Lincoln Memorial. All lined up straight. We had some trouble to find something to eat, we were already tired after the next couple km in our feet. But we found a McDonald’s food truck :D Fries and Burger at a bench on the National Mall, a bit cheesy but oh well :P We were starving so you gotta excuse us.
We passed the White House, Obama had a lil’ garden party, I think…. We passed the Washington Monument and ended our great day at the WWII Monument and Lincoln Memorial. The views were just beautiful because of the sunset and the Mirror Lake in front of Lincoln’s.
So different…. Very clean, more chilled out, peaceful here compared to NY. But still amazing.
